Amazing story of safety in South Central LA - it’s all energy!
I am about to tell you a powerful story to demonstrate that the energy and beliefs we carry really do reflect and manifest in our outer world. Anything can be shifted into something amazing. We all hear about how dangerous South Central LA is. Well…I accidentally hit someone’s car who was standing around with his gang… and didn’t get killed.
Let me start at the beginning:
Before I arrived in LA I promised the person I was going to stay with that I would help her with something when I was there. I stayed with her for just over a week and then had to leave as our communication styles were different and we simply were not a good match. But I had made a promise and intended on following through for integrity’s sake.
It was mid-July and for 2 days before I was about to see her again, my body cramped up and I was flu-like and in pain. My body was clearly telling me not to go. But for some odd reason I believed that it was more important for me to keep my word. So off I went and of course had a very stressful few hours with her. I was completely frazzled as I drove away. Next thing I know I am in a parking lot in South Central LA and in my freaked out state, I backed up into a car. Oops. I knew that the universe was teaching me a lesson about not following my intuition.
I looked behind to see a gang of guys. Now here I am this white chick with a short skirt and tube top…most people would be thinking they are dead. It didn’t even cross my mind. For me, I felt horrible that I hit someone’s car AND worried about being in a foreign country with a rental car. So I get out of the car and with so much regret, I approach the man, give him a hug (he was shocked) and said how sorry I was. Next thing you know we are yapping up a storm and he says not to worry about his car (despite the damage). He is letting it go. Then he says, “you’re not from here, are you?” I say, “nope, from Canada.” He looks at his buddies, looks back and says, “oh that is why. You people aren’t racist.” Then he lectures me about being white in this area and how it isn’t safe for me. His gang and him make sure I get in my car and out of the area safely.
As a side note, it is nice to know Canadian’s aren’t seen as racists… but y’all know that racism is everywhere unfortunately. Although from what I have seen living there for 2 months, we don’t have the intensity and level of segregation as the US.
What I realized as I drove away was…
- Yes I must always listen to guidance (and I know this but silly me consciously ignored the signs.)
- Because my energy is simply not aligned with being racist and I know that I am safe and one with all, those men were very kind to me. Had I approached with fear or had it in my energy, I would have been hurt. Love really does shift everything.
- It is okay to break your word if keeping your word is not in your best and highest good.
- Because I had learned the lesson, I knew that the bump that my car endured would somehow be fixed before I had to return it to the rental place. And it was…
Let’s fast forward to mid-August, 3 days before I left to go back to Toronto….
I am in Chico (north east California) and my dear friends, Melanie and George had a BBQ in my honor. (Isn’t that sweet?) Now I usually ask people “what are your dreams? your purpose?” But suddenly, I felt still, something took over my body and I turned to the man next to me and said, “so what do you do for a living?” He says, “I own a collision shop.” I burst out laughing cause I know what is coming… so I tell him about my car; he takes my keys and 10 minutes later I am herald outside to see him waxing my newly fixed rental! And all he wanted was a copy of my debut album. Done!
Yup I had learned the lesson and so the universe reversed the damage and all was well.
P.S. I stayed in south central LA for most of my trip and always had a wonderful experience. I did not see all the stuff you see on TV although I am sure it exists. We end up making situations far worse when the media sensationalizes it, bringing fear into the hearts and minds of people. I tend not to watch the news and I do not allow myself to ingest the fear. So of course my experience were people saying hi to me and being very friendly. Many times I came home at midnight and felt safe to walk from my car to the building. Again… it is all the energy we carry that creates our experience.

Thank you for this inspiring story - relieved you learned the lesson. Otherwise…
It’s so good to be reminded about following our gut. This is something we all struggle with, because of how much our minds sometimes contradict our feelings, and often overrides them.
Good for you for handling a tricky situation with grace and courage and humanity.
