Blowing the lid off the self help industry

As my company grows, my team and I have created a code of ethics based on some of the important trends we have been seeing in the our industry. Partially to keep us accountable and on track but also to make sure that you knew where we stand and what to expect from us from here on out.

When the movie “The Secret” came out, the craze began and millions of people attempted to apply Law of Attraction (LOA) to their lives. As much as I appreciate the exposure that “The Secret” brought to our industry, it was missing some key and critical points.

Now to be clear, LOA is highly complicated and very misunderstood.  It takes years of consistent study and application to master it, more than any 2 hour movie can provide. I am not blaming the Secret. But unfortunately, the way the majority of material in our industry has been presented tends to be airy fairy and not based in real life application. It is now several years later and I am seeing a bunch of jaded people, lacking faith and confused.

The other trend we noticed were a select group of leaders (not all) who were manipulating people into buying insanely expensive programs and in the meantime were not walking their own talk. As a result, many out there now see our industry as filled with a bunch quacks who are self proclaimed gurus out to scam people.

A wonderful trend we are seeing though is a rise of new leaders who are dedicated to authenticity and providing more practical, real life, long term solutions for you.

On a personal note, I have struggled with authenticity because I hate hurting people’s feelings so I would over embellish or not speak up. I have been working hard to change this pattern for the last couple of years and I really feel like I am able to speak my truth with love now. In growing my business, in the past, I have also made the mistake of listening to experts and then doing things that simply were not in line with me. Now I am learning to really listen to ME.

My Code of Ethics

I really do want to make a positive difference on this planet and so from here on out, here is my code of ethics that I am going to do my absolute best to adhere to. I am so dedicated to the following that in the past year I have let go of ALL of my original team and have created a new team who are completely in line me.

I promise you…
1.    I will NEVER call myself a guru. EVER. (Although I may call myself a diva sometimes!)
2.    If I don’t have the answer, I will tell you as opposed to making something up that may or may not be in your best interest. Although my ego would like to think so, I do not know everything.
3.    I am human and will make mistakes and when I do, I will take responsibility for my stuff.
4.    I will walk my talk, as challenging as it may be sometimes and call myself out when I don’t. Expect me to share openly and honestly about some of the ups and down along my own journey and the lessons I am learning.
5.    If I recommend a program or book to you, it is because I have personally reviewed it in depth and really believe it could be of benefit to you.
6.    I won’t offer you a quick fix. I am here to provide you with long term strategies applied to real world situations. It is your responsibility to implement the ones that feel right for you.
7.    When it comes to my products, services and events, I will always seek to find the balance between giving you all I can and keeping it as affordable as possible while honoring my own talents and time and charging what I am worth.
8.    When it comes to our public community (such as my blog and on my Facebook fan page), I will provide a safe place for you to go, share and be supported. You may lovingly and freely express your thoughts, stories and inspirations. It is okay if you express opinions that may be different than others, as long as you show respect and acceptance. Any person in our community that posts any prejudice or hurtful comments of any kind will be removed and banned.
9.    I will be as inspiring, informative and entertaining as possible.
10.    I will push myself to always go bigger so I can be a good example to you.

Thank you again for being part of my journey. I am excited to continue to have you as part of our community.  If you feel aligned with my code of ethics and want to continue to hear from me, please subscribe to be on my mailing list below. You will receive my free report, LOA means nothing without this…

Hi Cindy–love this post. GREAT code of ethics & good for you for throwing out that which was not authentic for you. I must say that I agree wholeheartedly about some of the LOA misnomers that are out there.

Practical applications are important. For instance, if I hear one more time how EVERY injustice in the world is self-inflicted through your own thoughts–I may scream! EVERY person during the holocaust was just too focused on the negative or too afraid? A baby who is abused–what? Feared abuse (which it can’t conceive of yet)too much? LOA has much validity, but doesn’t account for everything. I welcome the real and the practical which accompanies the general concept that your mind and your energy have much power over your life and your destiny.

Love your willingness to be YOU, to be human, to be humble, to be real, and to be accountable! Cheers to you, mama!
